Our regulation - ICAEW licensing and what it means for you

Every insolvency practitioner at InsolvencySupport.co.uk is licensed and regulated by the ICAEW - the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales - and on this page we explain what that means in practice, how to verify it, and why it should be the first question you ask anyone offering insolvency advice.

Why licensing matters in insolvency

Insolvency is one of the few areas of business advice where the key appointments can only legally be taken by a licensed professional - only a licensed insolvency practitioner can act as liquidator in a CVL or MVL, or as administrator in an administration.

The licence brings a framework that protects you: professional standards and ethics rules, mandatory bonding on every appointment, regulatory monitoring visits, a complaints process, and fee rules that put creditors in control of remuneration.

None of that applies to the unregulated advisers who operate around the industry's edges.

What the ICAEW requires of our practitioners

ICAEW-licensed practitioners must demonstrate competence through examination and experience before licensing, maintain continuing professional development, carry insurance and bonding, follow the insolvency profession's ethical code - including the duty to advise on all your options, not just the profitable ones - and submit to monitoring and discipline.

Our four practitioners - Alan Fallows, Alessandro Sidoli, Jessica Barker, and Allan Cadman - each hold a current ICAEW licence.

How to verify any practitioner's licence

The Insolvency Service maintains a free public register of licensed insolvency practitioners - search by name, and the register confirms the practitioner's licensing body and status.

We'd genuinely encourage you to check ours - and to run the same check on anyone else you're considering, because the absence of a register entry tells you everything.

How to spot unregulated advice

Warning signs worth knowing: you can never speak to the actual named practitioner; the "adviser" quotes fees before asking about your company; the firm's website names no licensed individuals at all; you're promised outcomes ("write off your debts", "guaranteed") that no regulated professional could promise; or pressure to sign quickly.

Unregulated advisers aren't necessarily dishonest - but if things go wrong, there's no regulator, no bond, and no recourse - and directors in distress are precisely the audience with the least margin for that risk.

Our approach is the opposite by design: named practitioners, verifiable licences, direct access, and advice that starts with your options rather than our fees - see what happens when you call.
