Our ICAEW Licensing and Regulation
Insolvency is a regulated profession. Anyone acting as an insolvency practitioner must be licensed by a Recognised Professional Body (RPB) approved by the Insolvency Service. This is not optional - it is the law.
All of our practitioners are licensed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), one of the leading RPBs. This licensing is your assurance of competence, ethics, and accountability.
What Licensing Means
To be licensed, a practitioner must:
- Pass rigorous examinations in insolvency
- Demonstrate experience under supervision
- Maintain professional standards through ongoing training
- Hold adequate professional indemnity insurance
- Be subject to regulation and discipline by the RPB
Why It Matters to You
Choosing a licensed ICAEW practitioner gives you:
- Competence - a practitioner with the qualifications and experience to handle your case properly
- Ethics - a professional bound by a strict code of conduct
- Accountability - someone regulated by a recognised body, with a complaints process if something goes wrong
- Insurance - professional indemnity cover to protect you
How to Check a Practitioner
You can verify any practitioner's licence through their RPB. For ICAEW practitioners, the ICAEW maintains a public register. Always check before you appoint - an unlicensed person acting as an insolvency practitioner is acting unlawfully.
Beware Unlicensed Advisers
Some firms offer insolvency "advice" without being licensed. They may pass your details to a licensed practitioner for a fee, or charge you for advice without being able to take a formal appointment. Always check that you are dealing with a licensed practitioner who can actually act for you.
